Zoning Change Requested for Robb Drive at I-80 in Reno
Thanks to NW Reno resident Rob Morrison for submitting the following report regarding the requested zoning change (LDC10-00045 TCA Properties) at the Robb Drive/I-80 interchange:
June 3, 2010 -- I went to the Planning Commission (long) meeting tonight. The Planning Staff (Vern Kloos) was against the Master Plan Amendment because to develop the property TCA would have to fill in the drainage area. Eight or ten local residents spoke out against it. I and one other Somersett resident spoke out against it, and only one citizen spoke for it. To make a long story short - they approved the Master Plan amendment!
Next, TCA has to go before the City Council to get their approval; then come back to Planning for zoning change and special use permits (to fill in the drainage area) before they propose any commercial development. The Planning Commission tried to assure the citizens there that this could not directly lead to Flying J coming back and getting approval for a truck stop. We will have to stay vigilant to make sure they don't ever approve a truck stop.Note: A truck stop has not been proposed at the site in question at this time. However, traffic issues that may be created at the Robb interchange by commercial development have not been adequately addressed, and the planning commission has not specified exactly what type of business would be built if the area in question were re-zoned as commercial.
On July 7, the City Council approved going ahead with the Master Plan Amendment.
